A prominent traditional ruler and scrap dealer in Lagos, Sarkin Yan Gwanjon- Jahar Yamma, Alhaji Ibrahm Abdullahi Soja, has appealed to the state governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, to rescind his administration’s decision to ban cart pushers in the state.

Soja, in a chat with City News said banning cart pushers would hurt the business of scrap dealers whom he said are into converting waste to wealth.

There has been a raging controversy over the ban on cart pushers in the state with scrap dealers kicking against it, insisting they are not into refuse collection in the state.

Adding his voice to the debate, Soja whose chairmanship covers 17 southern states of Nigeria, said the carts being used by scrap dealers were not meant for refuse collection which the state government is trying to stop.

“We are appealing to the government to have a second look at the ban. These carts are what we use to pick scraps especially in areas where vehicles cannot penetrate,” he said.
