Fifty two youths have graduated from the free Information and Communications Technology Training organised by a non-governmental organisation called Orile Iganmu Progressive Association (OIPA) at its Orile Iganmu Computer Institute.
The association, established in 2006, as Orile Iganmi Progressive Movement (OIPM), has so far trained over 5,000 youths in the community on free ICT and other related skills application programmes.
The essence of the programme is to empower youths in the community to compete technologically with youths from any part of the world.
At the award presentation of the OIPA Free ICT project, its Board of Trustees Chairman, Barrister Kingsley Omose, said the group was founded for the purpose of creating a neutral and conducive atmosphere for resources to be generated and redistributed among the over 750,000 inhabitants in the community living in abject poverty.
“We decided to bring about an initiative that will empower the people educationally. The youths were targeted, which brought about the Orile Iganmu Computer Institute. Since inception, many people have benefited from this initiative, which served as an eye opener for the youths to find their purpose,” he said.
Supporters of the organization, according to him, include the Kinabuti Empowerment Initiative, Francesca & Catering, and the BASF West African Limited.
The president of the association, Mr Olabode Oluwasegun Medale, expressed his gratitude to the brains behind the establishment of the association and the great supporters of the association.
Also, the Managing Director of a chemical company, Dr Jean-Marc Ricca, said his company was in Nigeria to help and improve Nigerians in different communities in whatever way it could, especially in the area of ICT.
