The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has launched a new Police Division in Ikorodu area of Lagos, as part of efforts to fortify security presence and tackle crime in the state.

The new division, located in Elepe/Igbogbo, was donated by the Nigeria Police Security Trust Fund.

Speaking during the inauguration ceremony, the IGP stated that the State-of-the-art police station, is part of the force efforts to tackle insecurity in the state.

Represented by DCP Akinbiseyin Dayo, he noted that the new division would improve operational efficiency and reduce police response time within the Ikorodu axis.

The IGP assured residents of Lagos that the police would continue to work tirelessly to ensure their safety and security.

He also urged members of the public to cooperate with the police and provide timely information to help prevent and combat crime.

“I want to appreciate President Bola Tinubu for his steadfast commitment to strengthening the internal security of our great nation, and to the Nigeria Police Trust Fund for this beautiful edifice. This commissioning is a significant step in our ongoing efforts to improve police infrastructure and enhance service delivery at the grassroots level.”

“This project, executed as a special intervention of the Nigerian Police Trust Fund, underscores our mandate to close critical infrastructure gaps and provide our officers with functional, modern and dignified work environments” he stated.

Also speaking, the Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Police Force Trust Fund, Mr. Alhaji Mohammed Sheidi, stated that the Police station was not just an edifice, but that it will also check spate of insecurity in the state.

“Commissioning these divisional police headquarters is not just an investment in physical infrastructure but also a strategic one in public safety, crime prevention, and community confidence in policing. It will indeed boost police visibility, prompt response to district calls, and foster closer relationships with members of the public. I urge officers and men deployed to these divisions to ensure the quality facilities are used properly, maintained, and protected.

“Let it stand as a symbol of professionalism, discipline, integrity, and service to the community. I also appeal to the host community to continue supporting the police by providing timely and reliable information as security is a shared responsibility” he said.

Also speaking,Hon. Babajimi Benson state leader of the All Progressive Congress (APC), stated that the facility is a smart police station that will help reduce crime in this area, Elepe area, which is part of Igbogbo LCDA.

“So, it’s a step in the right direction. We hope it will serve as a deterrent. We also hope that it will keep the bad boys away” he said.
