Lagos and Delta have emerged as the winners of the 24th Milo Basketball championship in both male and female categories respectively.

Team Lagos had defeated Niger 49-45 in the male category while Delta beat Lagos in the female category 44-38 played at the indoor sport hall inside National stadium, Surulere, Lagos.

The championship which attracted twelves school in the final after qualifying from the preliminary stage at regional level saw a bit-nailing contest to be crowned the winners.

However, after the round robin format in the group-stage and crossing the hurdles of the  knockout stages, Lagos’s Ijaye Housing Estate Grammar School battled against Father O’Connell Science College, Minna, Niger State to secure a victory with three points margin result which ended in 49- 45 in the male category final.

The victory sparked jubilation among the budding players and supporters, showcasing their dexterity to not relent.

Earlier, in the female category, the rivalry between Lagos and Delta came to the fore as the latter redeemed itself after losing to the former in the group stage but secured the victory in the finals with a six points margin which ended 44-38.

The victory denied the Lagos team to retain the trophy as the defending champion.

Nestlé Nigeria PLC’s Managing Director Wassim El-Husseini, had earlier remarked the firm remains committed to contribute to develop basketball at the grassroot, describing the competition as a platform where young minds are moulded to learn courage and teamwork not just in the court only, but in life.
