Recently, the Lagos state Government disbursed a further N80 million, in two tranches of N40 million each, in the Apapa Iganmu Local Council and Oshodi Isolo local Government to small scale traders and pensioners who need support to promote their daily earnings.

Speaking at the cheques presentation ceremony at the Gaskiya College, Ajegunle, the  state governor represented by the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation Mrs Joke Orelope-Adefulire, lamented a situation where Nigeria, one of the leading oil producing nations and with vast natural resources, is rated as one of the world’s poorest nation.  

While assuring Lagosians of the government’s active support despite unfavourable economic situation, the commissioner said poor people now have access to finance under its micro finance initiative. Saying the loans can be taken upon presentation of a business plan, the commissioner said the Fashola administration is determined to eradicate poverty among the residents through provision of funds for the informal sector operators.

Speaking on the same vein at the occasion, the Chairman of Apapa Iganmu Local Development Area, (Dr) Samuel Adedayo, reiterated the area council’s commitment to the implementation of its 3-Point Agenda to achieve development. The Chairman of Oshodi-Isolo Local Government Council,  Afeez Ipesa Balogun, made it known to the people of Oshodi-Isolo  Council that the N40 million given out is a sign of government’s seriousness to eradicate poverty and credit will only be given to those with a given business interest.
