The Lagos  Ministry Of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation (WAPA) has empowered women in the state with skills to help them tame the rising unemployment in the  country.
The programme  involved one month training on  hat making, soap and pomade/production of stove thread, tie and dye, catering and food production, hair braiding and weaving, gele tying and make-up, bead stringing and event decoration.
Speaking at the event, Commissioner of WAPA,  Lola Akande, advocated the need for other  states in the country  to empower their widows in order to reduce poverty and increase self-reliance.
The commissioner, who promised to support all widows, noted that the office of the public defender would assist them with legal proceedings and a counselor in the ministry to help them with depression counseling and other challenges.
