The Lagos State government and a sanitation solution company, Hypo, have teamed up to clean up the Ifelodun community in the Bariga area of Lagos.

The exercise, tagged, ‘Team Up to Clean Up’, also involved top Nollywood actress, Dayo Amusa, who worked alongside officials of the Lagos State ministries of the Environment and Health, Bariga Local Council Development Area, some serving National Youth Service Corps members in the area and residents of the community.

Hypo officials said that the exercise, aimed at entrenching environmental hygiene and promoting community sanitation, was part of its corporate social responsibility initiative.

At the event, the Assistant Director, Waste Management Division, Lagos State Ministry of the Environment, Mrs Tolulope Adeyo, urged parents, guardians and community leaders to imbibe cleanliness as an essential way of life.

“If we have a cleaner environment, there is a good chance that most of the avoidable diseases tormenting us, like malaria, typhoid, dysentery and Lassa fever, would be far away. This can only be achieved through individual responsibility to manage the waste generated on a daily basis by disposing them the right way,” she said.

Hypo’s Brand Manager, Onome Asagbra, said the partnership with key stakeholders and the Nollywood celebrity was to spur people to make a difference in themselves and their communities.

Also, the Area Marketing Manager, Hypo, Timothy Arowosegbe, noted there were no better ways to give back to Hypo consumers than through this initiative of influencing a positive behaviour for hygiene among residents.

Actress Amusa emphasised the importance of healthy living through good public health practices that influence and impact the community and the environment at large.
