Stakeholders across Nigeria’s energy and transport sectors gathered in Lagos this week for the 2025 Fuel with CNG Diesel Retrofit Program Workshop a pivotal event organized by the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative (P-CNGi). The workshop marked a major milestone in Nigeria’s transition toward cleaner, more sustainable fuel alternatives.
The workshop which took place at the Landmark towers in Lagos, convened hgh-level government officials, automotive industry leaders, environmental experts, fleet operators, and innovators in green tech. With discussions centered on strategies for converting diesel-powered vehicles to run on Compressed Natural Gas (CNG)—a cleaner, cost-effective alternative expected to revolutionize Nigeria’s road transport system.
In his opening remarks, Coordinator of the P-CNGi Initiative Engineer Michael Oluwagbemi emphasized the federal government’s commitment to reducing carbon emissions, tackling air pollution in urban centers, and creating green jobs through CNG adoption. “We are not just retrofitting engines—we are reimagining Nigeria’s energy future,” he declared.
The workshop featured training sessions for auto technicians, and expert-led panels addressing regulatory frameworks, infrastructure readiness, and financing schemes for CNG conversion projects.
Attendees applauded the interactive sessions, noting the workshop’s practical approach and its alignment with Nigeria’s broader decarbonization agenda. As the P-CNGi Initiative ramps up nationwide, Lagos’s 2025 workshop signals growing momentum for cleaner fuel adoption and a greener, more resilient future for Nigeria’s mobility ecosystem.
