Commissioner of Justice and Attorney General of the state Mr Ade Ipaye who disclosed this at a press brief on law and order said the housing units will begin from Badia area, which was demolished recently.
He said the Governor of Lagos State, Babatunde Fashola held two meetings with occupiers of the area between 2009 and last year before embarking on this development.
Several stakeholders meetings were held between the state government, the traditional land owners and residents’ representatives in the community concerning government’s intention to regenerate the area, he said.
According to him, during these meetings, necessary issues relating to government’s responsibility to the general public were discussed.
“It was also made clear that welfare, health, safety, security, etc were paramount and that government had obligation to enforce its laws and discourage illegality.
“In this particular instance, it was necessary for government to take action in view of the health, security and environmental problems in the place, especially the dumping of refuse that is eventually carried into the drains,” Ipaye explained.
