Lagos lawyer drags LGC to court over loot

In an exparte motion filed before the Federal High Court Lagos, in Suit No.FHC/L/CS/1022/09, the plaintiff was asking the court to order the Police to conduct an investigation into the series of petitions levelled against Mr Demola Doherty and other politicians who are key members of the Ifako-Ijaiye LGA for allegedly misappropriating public funds and assets they held in trust for the people.

It would be recalled that President Umaru Musa Yar ‘Adua March this year released the N10 Billion Lagos State Local Government fund which was with held by the administration of former President Chief Olusegun Obasanjo.

Already, the Centre for values in Leadership, a non government organisation had petitioned the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over the looting of some of the LGA accounts in Lagos State.

Charles Ikechukwu Nwandiani had also secured the leave of Court given by Justice I. M. Sani to enforce his fundamental human rights against the Police and the LGA council boss, either by themselves, their agents or officials from harassing, arresting, humiliating, dehumiliating or embarrassing him.

He was also praying the Court for an order to compel the Police to investigate the various allegations of looting levelled against the Ifako-Ijaiye LGA boss in Lagos State.  In some of the petition against Mr. Demola Doherty and his key Officials, they were alleged to have collected the Council’s share of the allocation and lodged same in a fixed account.
