The traditional rulers added their voice to the declared support for  Governor Fashola by the local government chairmen in the state during a special meeting held at Regency Hall in Ikeja.

The Obas, who were from the five divisions of the state, frowned at the directive from the presidency and described the development as disturbing, particularly when it came barely after a bomb attack on Atlas Cove oil facility in Lagos.

The Obas argued that the issue which had been on since the days of President Olusegun Obasanjo, was purely a matter of law and not raw display of power as the ultimatum portends.

In a 19-point communiqué issued after their meeting, the body of traditional rulers advised President Yar’adua to seek redress in a court of law rather than unilaterally employing coercive means in resolving a purely legal matter against the law and the wishes of people of Lagos.

Part of the communiqué signed by six leading Obas said that “Government has been brought to the doorsteps of the people and massive developments are being witnessed in all the nooks and crannies of the state.”

Present at the one day meeting were the chairman of the State Council of Obas and Chiefs, Oba Rilwanu Akiolu, his Vice-Chairmen, Oba Salaudeen Afolabi of Ikorodu, Oba Akeem Adesanya of Ilara in Epe division of the state and De-Wheno Aholu Menu-Toyi, the Akran of Badagry, while Chief Molade Okoya Thomas, an industrialist, represented eminent citizens of Lagos state.
