Juvenile detectives from the Lagos State Police Command, on Friday, told a magistrates’ court how a 52-year old man, Igwe Nonso, was caught making love to a 15-year-old girl at his home in Ajegunle.

The detectives told the court that the accused started sleeping with the girl when she was barely 13.

The police said the illicit affair between the man and the girl blew open when he impregnated her.

“My lord, in an attempt to cover up his track, the accused suggested that the girl should abort the pregnancy,” the prosecutor added.

The prosecutor, DSP Kahinde Ajaiyi, said the illicit affair occured on Okito Street, Ajegunle, where the accused and the girl’s parents were living in the same compound.

DSP Ajaiyi further told the court that the accused got carried away and sometime in December, 2021, he impregnated the girl again.

Afraid of being caught, he said the accused bought lots of contraceptive pills for the girl.

“The pills were later found on the girl. She was questioned by her parents. After days of questioning she eventually opened up that she had been engaged in sexual relations with the accused since 2018.

The accused’s plea was not taken following a motion by the prosecutor asking the court to refer the matter to the Department of Public Prosecution (DPP).

The Magistrate, Mrs O. A. Ajayi, ordered his remand pending the outcome of the DPP’s report and adjourned the case to February 27.
