Lagos, NDE partner on women empowerment

No fewer than 400 women in Lagos benefited from a cosmetology training organized by the National Directorate of Employment (NDE) in partnership with the office of the Wife of the Lagos State Governor, Mrs Ibironke Sanwo-Olu.

The beneficiaries also received loans disbursed to them under the Micro Enterprise Enhancement Scheme (MEES) aimed at empowering women and tackling unemployment.

The Director-General of the NDE, Dr Nasir Ladan Argungu, represented by the Director, South West zone, Alhaja Awulat Shafaru, explained that the scheme was targeted at empowering petty traders.

The wife of the Lagos State governor, Mrs Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu; the wife of the Deputy Governor, Mrs Oluremi Hamzat and other stakeholders who were at the ceremony held in Lagos at the weekend, hailed the initiative, which they said was in line with Gov Sanwo-Olu’s empowerment initiative.

Argungu said 400 women would be taken off the unemployment market through the cosmetology training.

The DG commended Gov Sanwo-Olu for his “unflinching support and collaboration with the NDE.”

He said Mrs Sanwo-Olu had demonstrated commitment in “ensuring that women have access to dignified and fulfilling work”.

Mrs. Sanwo-Olu expressed her appreciation to the NDE for the training and empowerment, saying it would in no small measure boost the morale of women in Lagos State.

The Coordinator, Lagos State branch of the NDE, Mrs Serena Olayebi Edward, said in her welcome address that the NDE had been strongly supportive and had consistently invested in Nigerian women and youths.
