The Lagos State Government chapter of the National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives had declared a 3-day warning strike following the alleged insensitivity of the State Government to their plights. The strike was to commence today, January 10.
The State Chairman of the Association, Comrade Olurotimi Awojide had decried the inconducive working condition of nurses in the State, saying, it has attracted massive brain drain in the profession in the last three years.
At the meeting which was held on Sunday, Governor Sanwo-Olu pledged the government’s sincerity in the implementation of all that was agreed on, to the delight of the representatives of the nurses while Comrade Awojide thanked Governor Sanwo-Olu for acceding to most of their requests.
Some of the requests of the nurses include: resolving the acute shortage of nurses and midwives; retention of incentives to address turnover rate; proper consolidation of CONHESS Salary Structure and improved working conditions among others.
Awojide promised to call an emergency congress of the association today, where the union will announce her decision to call off the planned industrial action.
