Lagos oba’s threat: Igbo lawyers demand retraction, apology

In a statement signed by Mr. Zik Obi and Mr. Chikezie Kaduru, the association’s president and general secretary respectively, it expressed “shock and disbelief” that a highly respected traditional ruler of Oba Akiolu’s standing should issue such a threat to Ndigbo “who have contributed and are still contributing so much towards the growth and development of Lagos State.”
According to Otu Oka Iwu, Ndigbo in Lagos wholly supported the administrations of former Lagos State governor, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and incumbent Babatunde Fashola, Esq. (SAN), “and will also give full support to whoever becomes the next governor of Lagos State.”
The law society urged Ndigbo “who must have been traumatised” by Oba Akiolu’s threats not be intimidated by such threats and to always exercise their franchise guided only by their conscience and the public good.
“Ndigbo should always be law abiding and should go about their day-to-day activities without fear,” the Otu Oka Iwu said. “However, we encourage them to take all lawful measures to protect their lives, property and businesses if the need ever arises.
“The association calls on the security agencies to ensure that Ndigbo and all other residents especially in Lagos and its environs are adequately protected.”
