The impeached speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, has dismissed reports alleging the discovery of a cache of arms in his office.
Similarly, Speaker Mojisola Meranda denied reports of her resignation, while the House refuted claims that 27 lawmakers planned to defect to the Labour Party (LP).
Obasa, in a personally signed statement responding to the viral reports, described them as “Lies from the pit of hell,” blaming his political adversaries for spreading falsehoods.
His reaction comes two days after operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) were deployed to the Assembly complex, further fueling speculations about the crisis and the leadership of Speaker Meranda.

Obasa, who is challenging his impeachment on January 13, dismissed the alleged arms discovery as a “hatchet but lazy journalistic story.”
He also dismissed other allegations against him, including claims that he built a gate for N16 billion and purchased a Toyota Hilux for N40 billion.
Meanwhile, the Lagos Assembly dismissed reports of Speaker Meranda’s resignation and alleged mass defections as “malicious and baseless.”
Chairman of the House Committee on Information, Strategy, and Security, Ogundipe Stephen, insisted that such falsehoods were aimed at creating division and confusion.
