Lagos State government and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have disagreed over the salary increase for civil servants announced by the state governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

Sanwo-Olu had on Tuesday said his government would increase the salaries of civil servants because of inflation in the country.

However, the governorship candidate of the PDP, Dr Abdul-Azeez Olajide Adediran (JANDOR) described the salary increase as a Greek gift, stating that it would not save the ruling party from suffering electoral defeat in 2023.

Jandor in a statement by the Head, Media & Communications of his campaign organisation, Gbenga Ogunleye, stated that his consistent calls on the incumbent government to apply human face and empathy in the execution of state policies was because of bad governance and abysmal failure of the APC-led government at the federal and state levels.

He said that the ruling party was jittery about the rising popularity of the PDP and his advocacy efforts to plead the cause of all Lagosians and offer them some levels of comfort as they endure the remaining days of the APC-led government. 

However, Lagos State Commissioner for Information & Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, said the reaction of the PDP to the salary increase was laughable. 

 “It is preposterous for anyone to think the salary increase is about the election. The election is still next year. It is unfortunate that PDP is crying while everybody is celebrating it. PDP is used to criticising what they should not be criticising all in the name of opposition. Sadly, they don’t have experience in governance,” he said.
