The Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Professor Akin Abayomi, has said the state government would continue to invest in the acquisition of more ambulances for distribution  to various locations in the state to support trauma victims.

Abayomi lamented that thousands of residents in the state face difficulties in accessing ambulances and blood donors on a daily basis.

The Commissioner spoke at the 2019 Trauma Conference organised by Trauma Care International Foundation (TCIF), where participants expressed worry over the plight of accident victims.

The participants, who were mostly health, accident and emergency response professionals, demanded greater collaboration between the government and private sector to boost the facilities and personnel deployed to assist trauma victims.

According to Abayomi, the state would justify its mega city status by deepening investments in the aspect of trauma care.

He also decried the activities of those he called “irresponsible commercial motorcyclists”, saying they had become a source of trouble to many people in recent years.

The Trauma Care International Foundation said the conference was organised to provide a platform for debate and stimulation of inter-disciplinary discussions in the field of trauma care and emergency response management.

Participants at the conference were drawn from federal and states ministry of health, the National Assembly, hospitals, Federal Road Safety Corps, first responders to accidents, the media, insurance firms and non-governmental organisations.
