Three part-time students of the Yaba College of Technology, Lagos, have been arrested for allegedly being in possession of firearms.

 Two out of the three students were identified as Isa Lukman and Ajeigbe.

 The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Imohimi Edgal, who confirmed the arrest, said that one locally-made pistol, three live cartridges and one expended cartridges were recovered from the suspects.

 Edgal said that on February 16, 2018, the command received information from who he called a reliable source that some hoodlums suspected to be cultists, dressed in black T-shirts, came out in their numbers at Yaba firing live ammunition into the air and robbing passers-by of their belongings.

 He said, “On sighting the operatives, the hoodlums ran to different directions and were chased. In the process, one Isa Lukman and one Ajeigbe were arrested. One locally-made pistol, three live cartridges and expended cartridges were recovered from them. During interrogation, the suspects confessed to be members of the Buccaneers, also known as the Alora Confraternity.

 “Investigation revealed that they were part-time students of the Yaba College of Technology. Investigation is still ongoing, while efforts are on to arrest the fleeing members of the group.”

 Similarly, the police Commissioner disclosed that Ogunseunwo Ademola, attached to the Lagos State Polytechnic Security Department, shot and killed one Amowo Hammed, a suspected cultist.

 Edgal said that the killing made other Ademola’s gang members to go on rampage, adding that the Divisional Police Officer of the Shagamu road divisional headquarters swiftly moved to the area to quell the riot.

 He said, “One Rilwan Adewale and one Aiyewumi Daniel were arrested with the combined efforts of the Federal Special Anti- Robbery Squad (FSARS), Ikorodu, and some local vigilante group based in Ikorodu. Recovered from the suspects was one locally-made double-barrel gun. They confessed that the gun belong to their group.”
