Taiwo Gbolahan, alias Scammer, whom the Lagos police command described as a notorious armed robber on their ‘Most Wanted’ list for many months, has been arrested.

The police said Gbolahan was a member of an armed robbery gang alleged to have killed a police sergeant earlier this year at Akala in the Mushin area of the state.

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Chike Oti, who confirmed the development yesterday, said the suspect was nabbed during an operation led by the Area Commander in charge of the Area D Command, Mushin, Assistant Commissioner of Police Akinbayo Olasoji, following a tip-off from an unnamed informant to the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, Edgal Imohimi, that Gbolahan had been sighted at Akala.

Oti added that when policemen searched the suspect, they recovered a handset and numerous SIM cards from him.

Investigation on the handset was said to have revealed the owner as Memunat Opeyemi Zerbo, a resident of Orile-Iganmu, Lagos.

Oti explained that when Zerbo was invited to the police station, she identified Gbolahan as a member of a three-man gang of armed robbers that robbed her on August 18, 2018, of many valuables.

“She said that the attack on her by the gang was carried out at about 5.17 am. She narrated how the gang, armed with guns, cutlasses and daggers, robbed her of her handset and a SIM card, which they configured and without her authorisation, transferred the sum of N170,000 from her account.

“The suspect, who didn’t deny committing the crime, is helping the police in their effort to arrest other members of the gang who are at large,” he said.
