The Lagos State police command’s new head of traffic, Titilayo Oriyomi Oluwasanmi, has vowed to tackle headlong the usual chaotic gridlock in most parts of the state.

Oluwasanmimi, a Chief Superintendent of Police, was recently appointed the State Traffic Officer (MOTOPOL).

She said part of the task she has set for herself was to eliminate the gridlock that Lagos has become notorious for.

The Traffic Officer said that when she went round the state on assumption of office to have first-hand information on why there are so many bottlenecks on the roads, she discovered that part of the reason was the indiscipline on the part of commercial bus drivers who she said had no respect for traffic laws.

Oluwasanmi, the former Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of the Ilasamaja Division, Lagos State, took over from another Chief Superintendent, Margaret Okonkwo, who was removed amid controversy.

Oluwasanmi, who has assumed duty as the new MOTOPOL, has pledged to bring her wealth of experience to sanitise the traffic section.  She was quoted as warning her subordinates, “The era of extortion is over. You don’t arrest always; sometimes you correct offenders. You have to police with the fear of God and a human face. I will not hesitate to deal with anyone found tarnishing the image of the unit. I also want to advise you to always dress properly and look clean.”
