Lekan Fatodu, Director-General of the Lagos State Sports Commission, on Thursday praised the organisers of the Lagos Women Run for reaching their 10th anniversary.

 Fatodu told the News Agency of Nigeria in Lagos that the run has distinguished itself as a platform celebrating women’s strength and resilience.

 He described the event as the only recognised gender-based athletics meet, encouraging the limitless potential of women in society.

 Fatodu said Lagos is honoured to host a movement that transcends sport and impacts every facet of society.

 He noted that this year’s theme, ‘One Run, a Thousand Opportunities’, is symbolic and timely.

 Fatodu said the Lagos Women Run has evolved from a modest fitness effort to one of the most unifying events for women in Nigeria and beyond.

 Coordinator of the race, Tayo Popoola, said the 10th anniversary will attract women from across the world.

 She said the milestone demonstrates the event’s sustainability, supported strongly by the Lagos State Government.

 She added that the run celebrates women and their achievements under the theme, One Run, a Thousand Opportunities.

 U-meleni Mhlaba Adebo, ambassador for the 2025 10km race, described her previous experience as memorable.

 She said she looks forward to returning for the anniversary, noting her first race in Lagos helped her connect with the city.

 More than 8,000 runners are expected for the anniversary race scheduled for Nov. 8. (NAN)
