The Lagos State government has announced its preparedness to stage a five-day end-of-the year 2015 and crossover into 2016 fiesta aimed at showcasing the state’s cultural heritage and art.
Tagged “One Lagos Fiesta,” it would be a celebration of entertainment with lights, fun, food, comedy, dance, theatre and drink, with an infusion of the culture of each of the five locations where the fiesta will take place simultaneously.
Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mr. Folarin Coker, disclosed these at the weekend. He said the fiesta is continuation of the previous Lagos Countdown held during ex-governor Babatunde Fashola’s era but repackaged to celebrate the state’s achievements in the out-going year, with a strong expression of hope for the year ahead at venues spread across the state.
“The people of Lagos are known for hard work and their “Can-do” attitude which is complemented with a jovial spirit for celebration, especially during the festive period. Our plan is to take advantage of these attributes and identify with the citizens in a one community, one celebration and one purpose approach,” Coker said.
He stressed that over 50 artistes are expected to perform at the chosen centres, adding that over one million people would be welcome into 2016.
 “It will be the biggest crossover party in Sub-Saharan Africa,” he said, while noting that the state government had made adequate arrangements for security, traffic management, sanitation, health and safety throughout the period of the fiesta in the designated locations.
