The 2025 National Youth Games in Asaba is proving once again why it is regarded as the breeding ground for Nigeria’s future stars. The battle for supremacy has been fierce, with Lagos, Edo, and defending champions Delta State going toe-to-toe in the medal race.

As of yesterday evening, Team Lagos surged to the top of the standings, boasting 61 medals—made up of 33 gold, 15 silver, and 23 bronze.

Not far behind, Edo State sits in second place with a haul of 41 medals (25 gold, 9 silver, 15 bronze). The hosts and reigning champions, Delta State, are currently third despite amassing 59 medals—17 gold, 20 silver, and 22 bronze.

Elsewhere, Abia State has impressed with a solid fourth-place position after bagging 9 gold, 8 silver, and 7 bronze medals.

Beyond the numbers, the Games have delivered exciting moments of brilliance. Young athletes have shattered records and raised new benchmarks, thrilling fans and reaffirming the competition’s role as a launchpad for future international champions.

With the closing ceremony set for Saturday, September 6, the race is far from over as all eyes are on the home stretch, to see what state will ultimately claim glory.
