A motor park tout and a truck driver lost their lives in a tragic road accident in Lagos on Thursday.
According to witnesses, the tout was allegedly attempting to extort money from the truck driver at Cele Bus Stop on the Oshodi-Apapa Expressway when he was crushed by another truck.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday when the tout, whose identity had yet to be disclosed, reportedly stepped into the path of an oncoming truck in an attempt to stop the driver.
Witnesses alleged that the driver of the truck, marked T-392 LA, stopped briefly in the middle of the road while negotiating with the tout.

Unfortunately, another truck travelling at high speed and unable to stop rammed into the stationary vehicle, crushing the tout beneath it, while the driver became trapped behind the steering wheel.
Witnesses described the scene as chaotic, with bystanders rushing to assist the trapped driver.
Despite rescue efforts, the driver was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders.
The General Manager of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Olalekan Bakare-Oki, confirmed the incident, stating that the collision involved two fully laden 40-foot containerised trucks along the Cele inward axis of the Oshodi–Apapa Expressway, Mile 2, Lagos.
Bakare-Oki said the tragic incident resulted in the deaths of two individuals.
According to him, one of the deceased was identified as the driver of one of the trucks, while the other was described as a suspected miscreant whose identity could not be immediately established at the time of response.
“The collision left the deceased driver entrapped within the steering compartment of his truck, thereby necessitating painstaking technical extrication by operatives of the Authority’s Rescue and Recovery Team.
“LASTMA personnel undertook meticulous rescue procedures to retrieve the driver’s remains, while the lifeless body of the suspected miscreant was carefully evacuated from beneath one of the trucks following an intensive search and recovery exercise executed under rigorous safety protocols.
“The operation was conducted in seamless synergy with the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), whose specialised technical intervention greatly supported the exercise.
“Security reinforcement was provided by personnel of the Nigeria Police Force attached to the Ilasa Police Division, who ensured effective perimeter control.
“Officials of the State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit promptly evacuated the remains of both victims upon notification by LASTMA.
“Upon conclusion of on-site operations, LASTMA formally handed over the incident to officers of the Ilasa Police Division, whose statutory mandate is to investigate and determine the immediate and remote causes of the occurrence,” he added.
Meanwhile, the General Manager extended his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, describing the incident as a sobering reminder of the inherent risks associated with high-density freight corridors.
