The Lagos State government has urged residents of the state, especially the elderly, pregnant women and children, to take precautionary measures against the current hot climate in the state by drinking more water.
The government, in a statement signed by the Commissioner for Environment, Dr. Babatunde Adejare, noted that the extreme weather conditions could be deadly, offering no relief and posing a particular threat for the elderly and children.
The government said that the changes in climatic conditions was a result of prolonged period of excessively hot weather, accompanied by high humidity, noting that in the past four to eight weeks, there had been an increasing trend in high-humidity heat waves, characterised by the persistence of extremely high night-time temperature.
