The Lagos Water Corporation has restated its commitment towards the safety and wellbeing of inhabitants host communities of its facilities in the state.
This is in response to the publication in Punch Newspaper of Monday 9th May 2016, titled “Lagos Water destroys houses in Ogun, displaces residents.”
The corporation’s Group Managing Director, Engineer Muminu Adekunle Badmus, who disclosed this against the backdrop or recent displacement of residents in Ogun State ,explained that in line with international best practices the corporation carried out an Environment Impact Assessment prior to the execution of the project.
He further explained that the channel for backwash water was originally designed as a drainage, which gradually became bigger overtime. He stated that it is the practice of the corporation to discharge wastewater into the approved channel.
He however re-assured that effort at remedying the situation has commenced with a comprehensive study of the environment towards proffering a lasting solution.
