Lakurawa terrorists kill two farmers, injure one in Sokoto

Suspected Lakurawa terrorists on Thursday killed two farmers and injured another during an attack on Baidi village in Tangaza Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

Sources in the area said the victims were working on their farms when the assailants struck at about 10 a.m.

A resident, who requested anonymity for security reasons, said two of the farmers were initially attacked while working together.

“They came to the farm and opened fire on them. One of the farmers died on the spot, while the other sustained a gunshot wound to the leg and was rushed to Tangaza General Hospital for treatment,” the source said.

The resident added that the body of another farmer was later discovered, bringing the death toll from the attack to two.

Another resident of Tangaza alleged that the terrorists had repeatedly warned farmers against cultivating their farmlands.

“They have been threatening people not to go to their farms. Just last week, they attacked Madarare village in Raka Ward and shot two people,” the source said.

Efforts to obtain official confirmation from the Sokoto State Police Command were unsuccessful, as the command’s spokesman, DSP Ahmad Rufa’i, did not respond to telephone calls or text messages as of the time of filing this report.
