The Plateau State Government has been advised to put aside funds for the reconstruction and recovery of communities that have suffered years of crises as well as to rehabilitate and resettle Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the state if it intends to attract federal government and international interventions.
The advice was given by the Chief of Staff to the Commander, Operation Safe Heaven (OPSH), Brigadier General Abdulsalam Ibrahim during the monthly Peace Architecture Dialogue (PAD), security meeting organised by Search for Common Ground, an NGO funded by the European Union in partnership with the Nigeria Stability and Reconciliation Programme (NSRP).
General Ibrahim, who is the Co-chairman of PAD, was reacting to calls by members of the dialogue and the Director General of the State’s newly established Peace Building and Conflict Resolution Bureau, Joseph Jengmang on the need for a federal government intervention for the State on account of years of ethno-religious conflict.
“If you are to look at Borno State, the Governor started before the federal intervention and that is to tell you that the state has to start something before the federal government can key in,” he said.
