The Nasarawa State Government has set up a committee to investigate traditional rulers over alleged grabbing of lands belonging to Tiv farmers in the Southern Senatorial District.

It would be recalled that the Tiv Youths Movement (TYM) wrote an appeal to Governor Abdullahi Sule on July 28, and upon receiving the petition, the governor directed the Ministry of Justice to urgently investigate the issue with the aim of proffering a lasting solution to the persistent farmers/herders crisis in the state.

In a letter, the Chairman of the committee and Director of Law Reform, Research and Statistics, William Akika, obtained by City & Crime in Lafia on Monday, appealed to both parties to remain calm as the state government was on top of the matter.

The letter reads in part: “His Excellency, Engr A. A. Sule, Governor of Nasarawa State, received the above petition from the Tiv Youths Movement (TYM), Nasarawa State, and referred same to the Ministry of Justice for investigation.”

Our respondents reports that among the communities whose farmlands have allegedly been snatched by some traditional rulers in the zone are Bature/Cha/Ukuracha in Kadarko Chiefdom; Jimin Nyaku and Jimin Gbga in Aloshi Chiefdom; and The Yo, Kpilaior and Obosi Doma in Keana Chiefdom.

Others are Ikpe and Yaji in Giza Chiefdom; Myom, Shatse and Atuma in Kadarko Chiefdom and Kuduku 1 and Kuduku 2 in Giza Chiefdom.
