A landlady, Mrs Nwaorgu Ebere, has been arraigned before an Abuja magistrates’ court for barring her tenant from access to his apartment by removing the roof of the house.
The defendant was charged with trespassing, mischief and wrongful restraint.
The prosecutor, CSP Samuel Ishaya, told the court that the defendant, on May 11, around 9pm intentionally without any provocation denied the plaintiff, who is a tenant in her residence entering the apartment by padlocking the gate without his consent.
He said the landlady also removed the roof of the plaintiff’s apartment even though she was fully aware that the matter was under investigation by the police.
The suspect pleaded not guilty and sought bail through her counsel.
The Magistrate, Musa Abubakar Sadeeq, granted her bail in the sum of N200,000 and two reliable sureties in like sum and adjourned the case to June 2.
