The governor expressed sympathy with Mr Amos Akaninyene who lost his young pregnant wife, two children, his mother in-law and two visitors during the torrential five hour rain in the area.
Imoke was represented by the Commissioner of Works, Idagbo Legho, accompanied by Commissioner for Environment, Sandy Onoh and Security Adviser to the governor, Bassey Rekpene.
The Commissioner for Environment, Dr Sandy Onor said his ministry had already advertised the contract so that work could commence soon to solve the erosion problems in the area in collaboration with the World Bank.
Onor said he was touched by the tragedy. “It is very clear that living in this kind of place and tampering with the vegetation is very dangerous because, the top soil will be exposed and the house will collapse.  Let us assure you as you can see we are all here because our governor values his people. That is why he sent us here.”
The commissioner noted that the state would also share the cost of arresting the erosion problems in the state, as it would be carried out in conjunction with the World Bank.
