Laolu Akande marks 7th anniversary of escaping air mishap

Veteran journalist and spokesman of former Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo during his eight years in office, has recounted how he and 11 others narrowly escaped death when a helicopter crash-landed at Kabba, Kogi State, seven years ago.

In a reflective post marking the anniversary of the incident, Akande said the helicopter crash-landed in 2019 while he was part of Osinbajo’s campaign delegation ahead of the Buhari/Osinbajo re-election bid.

All 12 occupants of the aircraft, including Osinbajo, survived the incident without loss of life, describing the experience as a testimony of divine intervention.

He recalled that shortly after the crash-landing, the delegation boarded a bus intended to convey them to a campaign event in the state.

However, the journey was redirected to a nearby hotel where members of the delegation changed clothes and took a brief rest after the ordeal.

Despite the incident, Akande said Osinbajo insisted on continuing with the campaign activities and rejected suggestions that the team should suspend engagements for the day.

He expressed gratitude for the preservation of their lives, noting that what could have been a day of remembrance had instead become a moment of thanksgiving.

Below is his post about the incident

”E ba mi yin Oluwa logo o! That means “join me to praise the LORD!” It’s testimony time. God saved us, 12 of us including then VP, February 2, 2019. My darling wife said to me yesterday this would have been the 7th anniversary of a remembrance! But the good LORD saved & preserved all of us. PRAISE JESUS! E BA MI YIN JESU L’OGO, AMEN, E BA MI YIN JESU LOGO,”

”AMEN! Seven years ago exactly today, I wrote and posted this tweet, just a few moments after our chopper crash-landed in Kabba, Kogi State. I was on the delegation of then VP Osinbajon @ProfOsinbajo.

”I wrote the tweet right inside a bus that was meant to take the VP and his delegation to a campaign stop in the State as we were on the hustlings for the 2019 second term Buhari/Osinbajo election. So the bus had to reroute to an hotel where we changed clothes and took a little breather after the harrowing experience. And then within the hour, Osinbajo led us right back to the campaigns. He didn’t agree to suggestions that we should abandon the work and go and rest! Such was the courage on display and the determination in our hearts. So to GOD ALMIGHTY we give all the glory for our lives! Please if you can sing with me: E BA MI YIN JESU L’OGO, AMEN, E BA MI YIN JESU LOGO, AMEN! ALAGBAWI EDA…..”

The helicopter crash-landing in Kabba occurred during a nationwide campaign tour ahead of the 2019 general election. No fatalities were recorded in the incident.
