Gbolahan who disclosed this to journalists after a stakeholders’ meeting with the operators of the abattoir, said the measure was part of the ministry’s pro-active step to further ensure wholesome, healthier meat distribution to its citizens.
Daily Trust had exclusively reported about four weeks ago, the activities of the operators of the abattoir which exposed the public to health and environmental hazards.
But at the briefing, Gbolahan insisted that the meat being distributed in the state was healthy for consumption.
Gbolahan also said government will soon start issuing licenses to prospective private companies to upgrade existing slaughtering slabs in the state to international standard.
The commissioner warned residents to avoid patronizing illegal abattoirs, saying “meat from such abattoirs is not hygienic and not compliant with the relevant laws governing meat slaughtering in the state.”
