Bauchi State Commissioner for health, Dr. Halima Mukaddas disclosed this in Bauchi on Monday while speaking on the recent resurgence of the disease in the state.

Over 15 people died from Lassa fever in 2016 in Bauchi State while four people out of five reported cases died between January and February 2017.

Shortage of drugs and other needed equipments have been identified as some of the factors hindering the treatment of the disease in the state according to findings.

However, it was gathered that the state governor Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar and the state commissioner for health will hold a meeting with the minister of health on Wednesday over the issue.

According to the commissioner, the state has now intensified efforts to curb the spread of the disease through massive awareness, training of health workers and improved standards.

She added that the state ministry of health has also deployed teams to check private hospitals, Diagnostic centres and other health related facilities‎ in the state to ensure compliance with laid down rules.
