‘Last Flight To Abuja’, ‘The Meeting’ lead AMAA nominations

The event which will hold in Bayelsa has a total of twenty six categories with movies from across Africa and the Diaspora in completion for the various categories. The event which will hold in Bayelsa has a total of twenty six categories with movies from across Africa and the Diaspora in completion for the various categories.
Some of them include ‘Dead River’ (Namibia), ‘Elegy For A Revolutionary’ (South Africa), ‘Yellow Fever’ (Kenya), ‘Kwaku Ananse’ (Ghana) ‘Nhamo’ (Zimbabwe)’ ‘Big Daddy’ (Nigeria), ‘Release’ (South Africa) and ‘Burnt Forest’ (Kenya) which are in the Best short Film category.
In the Best Documentary category are ‘Fuelling Poverty’ (Nigeria), ‘Gun To Tape’ (South Africa), ‘Swimming The Zambezi’ (South Africa), ‘Give Me Back My Home’ (Kenya), and ‘The African Cypher Fly On The Wall’ (South Africa).
Contending for Best Diaspora Feature are ‘Against The Grain’ (USA), ‘Between Friends’ (Trinidad Tobago), and ‘Stones In The Sun’ (Haiti/USA).
For the award of Best Diaspora Documentary are ‘Fan Do Brasil’ (Brazil/Guatamela), ‘My Thiero Boys’ (USA), and ‘Red, White, Black And Blue’ (USA).
Nominees for the award of Best Animation are ‘Tageni’s Dol’ (Namibia), ‘Adventure Of Zambezia’ (South Africa), ‘Mission Impossible’ (Nigeria), ‘Oba’ (Nigeria) and ‘Lion Of Judah’ (South Africa).
Nominees for Best Nigerian Film are ‘Blood And Henna’, ‘Hereos And Zereos’, ‘The Meeting’, ‘Confusion Na Wa’, ‘The Twin Sword’, ‘Kokomma’ and ‘Okoro The Prince’.
For Best Film in An African Language are ‘Moi Zaphira’ (Burkina Faso), ‘Elelwani’ (South Africa), ‘The Last Fishing Boat’ (Malawi), ‘Nairobi Half Life’ (Kenya), ‘Blood And Henna’ (Nigeria), ‘Sherifa’ (Togo), ‘Kokomma’ (Nigeria)
 ‘Turning Point’ (USA /Nigeria), ‘Practice’ (UK/Nigeria), ‘Last Flight To Abuja’ (UK/Nigeria), ‘Bianca’ (USA/Nigeria) and ‘Wolwich Boys’ (UK/Nigeria) are contending for Best Film by an Africans Abroad.
For the AMAA 2013 Prize For Achievement In Production Design are ‘Virgin Magarida’, ‘Elelwani’,  ‘The Twin Sword’, ‘The Contract’, ‘Blood And Henna’ and ‘Okoro The Prince’.
‘Twin Sword’, ‘Elelwani’, ‘Virgin Magarida’, ‘Blood And Henna’, ‘The Meeting’ and ‘Cobweb’ are contending for Achievement in Costume Design award.
For Achievement in Make-Up category are ‘The Meeting’, ‘Twin Sword’, ‘Elelwani’, ‘Ninah’s Dowry’, ‘Okoro The Prince’ and ‘Uhlanga, The Mark’.
In the Achievement in Soundtrack category, is ‘Journey To Self’, ‘Okoro The Prince’, ‘The Last Fishing Boat’, ‘Hoodrush’, ‘Nairobi Half Life’ and ‘The Twin Sword’.
Nominees for Achievement in Visual Effects are ‘Okoro The Prince’, ‘The Twin Sword’, ‘Elelwani’, ‘Last Flight To Abuja’ and ‘Uhlanga, The Mark Awakening’.
In the Best Actress in a Supporting Role category are Hermelinda Cimela ‘Virgin Magarida’, Patience Ozokwo ‘Turning Point’, Linda Ejiofor ‘The Meeting’, Crista Eka ‘Ninah’s Dowry’ and Foluke Daramola ‘Cobweb’.
‘Last Flight To Abuja’, ‘Streets Of Calabar, ‘Hereos And Zereos’, ‘Zama Zama’, ‘Virgin Magarida’ and ‘6 Nairobi Half Life’ are nominated for Achievement in Sound awards.
Belinda Effah ‘Kokomma’, Sumela Maculuva ‘Virgin Magarida’, Joseph Wairimu ‘Nairobi Half Life’, Shonelo Mbutho, ‘Ulanga The Mark’ and Karoumwi Olakunle ‘The Twin Sword’ are nominated for Best Promising Actor.
For Best Actor in a Supporting Role are Gabriel Afolayan ‘Hoodrush’, Ali Nuhu ‘Blood And Henna’, Olwenya Maina ‘Nairobi Half Life’, Alfred Atungu ‘Twin Sword’ and Ikponmwosa Gold ‘Confusion Na Wa’.
Nairobi Half Life (Kenya), ‘Ninah’s Dowry’ (Cameroun), ‘Last Fishing Boat’ (Malawi), ‘Virgin Margarida’ (Mozambique), ‘Elelwani’ (South Africa) ‘Last Flight To Abuja’ (Nigeria) and ‘Confusion Na Wa’ (Nigeria) are up for best film.
Oc Ukeje ‘Alan Poza’, Bimbo Manuel ‘Hereos And Zereos’, Lindani Nkosi ‘ Zama Zama’, Justus Esiri ‘Assasins Practice’, Hlomla Dandala ‘The Contract’, Femi Jacobs ‘The Meeting’ and Amurin Wumnembom ‘Ninah’s Dowry’ are contenders for the best actor in leading role award.
While Yvonne Okoro ‘The Contract’, Florence Masebe ‘Elelwani’, Mariam Ouedraogo ‘Moi Zaphira’, Rita Dominic ‘The Meeting’, Mbutung Seikeh ‘Ninah’s Diary’ and Flora Suya ‘Last Fishing Boat’ are nominees for Best Actress in a Leading Role.
Nominees for Best Director are Kenneth Gyang ‘Confusion Na Wah’, Shemu Joyah ‘Last Fishing Boat’, Shirley Frimpong Manso ‘Contract’, Niji Akanni ‘Hereos And Zeroes’, David Kitounga ‘Nairobi Half Life’ and Ntshavheni Wa Luruli ‘Elelwani’.
Other categories include Achievement in Cinematography, Achievement in Editing, Achievement in Lightning, Achievement in Screenplay. Movies which produced the best child actors are ‘Cobweb’, ‘The Ugandan’, ‘Imbabazi, The Pardon’, ‘Ninah’s Dowry’, ‘Swirl in Bamako’ and ‘Salimatu Traore (Moi Zaphira).
