For more than three weeks now, the Ojo campus of LASU has been in darkness
Students of Lagos State University are groaning over lack of electricity, which they said is making learning and life difficult for them on campus.
The Eko Electricity Distribution Company had allegedly cut off electricity supply to the university over failure to pay over N20 million bill, which the governing council of the institution described as outrageous.

For more than three weeks now, the Ojo campus of LASU has been in darkness. Though, in the interim, the management of the institution has been trying to run on generators but it is not sufficient as each faculty was given two hours of power supply each day.
This situation according to the students is making life on campus difficult as the lack of electricity is affecting water supply.
A final year student of the institution who pleaded anonymity said that power supply has been disrupted for over three weeks and that it is making learning experience unbearable considering the hot weather.
Another 300level student who also does not want his name mentioned narrated her experience, saying, “This light issue has been ongoing for weeks now; at first we thought it was something minor but it is running into weeks now.”
Explaining what led to the situation, LASU’s Coordinator, Centre for Information, Press and Public Relations, Mr. Ademola Adekoya narrated that before February, the university had been paying N6 million for electricity per month.
He said, “Suddenly, PHCN (Eko Disco) started bringing over N20 million bills per month. The Acting Vice Chancellor cannot approve more than N5million, as such, the chairman, governing council will have to approve.”
