A few years later in 1997, her eldest son, General Shehu Musa Yar’adua, a master strategist and renowned political icon passed away in a rather mysterious circumstance after being incarcerated by the then government of Gen Sani Abacha. Her eldest son, late Shehu Musa Yar’adua was known to have established a strong political dynasty becoming not only the breadwinner of the family but a sustainer of his aged mother providing all her needs and that of the family.
It was a clear fact that even the deceased President Umaru Musa who on a platter of gold got what his brother fought hard to get in vain rode on his brother’s back to become the governor of Katsina State and later the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. While late Umaru Yar’adua held forth as the President of Nigeria, her eldest daughter, Hajiya Hadiza Musa Yar’adua passed away while on her way to Saudi Arabia for lesser hajj.
A source within the family said even while President Yar’adua was at the hospital in Saudi Arabia for treatment, his mother, who is very much aware of all the controversy trailing his sickness, suppressed any signs of fear or weakness. A source confirmed to Weekly Trust that the old woman never openly discussed the condition of his health except the usual call for prayers for his speedy recovery. She is also known to be a deeply religious person who spends most of her time on the praying mat in her room. Weekly Trust gathered reliably that she was among the first to learn of the death of her son, but yet remained calm and prayerful for the repose of his soul.
