A 38-year-old laundryman has pleaded guilty to a charge of drug trafficking brought against him by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

Uzoma told a Federal High Court in Lagos that he was guilty as charged for trafficking in 500gm of cannabis sativa.

After his plea, the prosecutor, Mr Jeremiah Aernan, applied that the accused be remanded in prison, pending a review of the facts of the case.

Justice Mohammed Idris, accordingly, ordered the remand of the accused in prison and adjourned the case until Feb. 23, for a review of facts and sentence.

According to the charge sheet, the accused committed the offence on Dec. 6, 2017, under a bridge at Ijora near Lagos.

The prosecutor said the accused was arrested following a tip-off and about 500gm of hemp was recovered from him. He said the accused was also trafficking in restricted drug.

The offence contravenes the provisions of Section 11 (c) of the NDLEA Act, Cap N30, Law of the Federation, 2004.

Drug trafficking attracts up to a term of life imprisonment, if convicted of the offence. (NAN)
