‘Lavender’: Kemi Lala debuts as director

Kemi Lala Akindoju has made directorial debut on stage with the play, ‘Lavender,’ following the success of her one-woman show ’Naked,’ which premiered at the Lagos Theatre last year.

The play presented by The Make It Happen Productions, owned and run by Akindoju, will feature at this year’s Lagos Theatre Festival.

The cast of the play written by Ademola Soares, include Kehinde Bankole, Deyemi Okanlawon, Oludara Egerton-Shyngle and Rita Edward.

Akindoju is known for her ’The V Monologues’ and also has credits as associate producer on Ndani TV’s ‘Gidi Up,’ co-producer on Akin Omotoso’s ‘The Ghost and The House of Truth’ and Ishaya Bako’s soon to be released ‘4th Republic.’

She is an award-winning actress and producer who has featured in over 70 theatre productions and films around the world including MNET Africa’s ‘Tinsel,’ Tunde Kelani’s ‘Dazzling Mirage.’ Kunle Afolayan’s ‘The CEO,’ Biyi Bandele’s ‘Fifty,’ Ishaya Bako’s ‘Royal Hibiscus Hotel’ and Akin Omotoso’s soon to be released ‘The Ghost and the House of Truth’.

In 2012 Akindoju performed at the Theatre Royale Stratford East at the cultural Olympiad which was part of the London Olympics.

Akindoju’s accolades include Future Awards 2010 Actor of the Year, Most Promising Actor at the Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) in 2015, and the Trailblazer Award at the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) in 2016. She holds a Master’s in Media and Communication from the Pan- Atlantic University.

The Lagos Theatre holds from the 8th to 14th of April, 2019.
