LAWMA beneficiaries graduate from Glo Skillbridge training

Street sweepers employed by the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) have graduated from the Glo Skillbridge programme, a skills acquisition initiative by the Glo Foundation, the corporate social responsibility arm of telecommunications giant, Globacom.

The graduation ceremony, held in Lagos, marked the conclusion of weeks of  training in various creative and technical fields, including baking, fashion design, bead-making, digital marketing and Canva design.

Speaking at the event, the head of CSR at Globacom, Jumobi Mofe-Damijo, commended the participants for their commitment and described the programme as a strategic way to invest in the community.

“This training has given you the tools and knowledge to succeed. We are excited to see how you will use these skills to create additional income streams and better your lives,” she said.

The managing director of LAWMA, Dr Muyiwa Gbadegesin, represented by the agency’s executive director, finance, Kunle Adebiyi, praised Globacom for the initiative, calling it a commendable step toward economic empowerment of the agency’s frontline workers.

“This programme will help LAWMA staff explore new opportunities beyond their current roles. It is a valuable investment in their personal development,” he said.

Some of the participants were honoured for outstanding performances during the training. Mrs Obadina Omowunmi Sarah was recognised for excellence in baking, while Damilola Olowolafe emerged as the best in fashion designing.

One trainee, Udoh Blessing, who took her mother’s place in the programme, showcased her digital skills and expressed gratitude for the opportunity. “What I have learnt – if I don’t make use of it – even God will be angry with me,” she said.

The Glo Skillbridge programme is part of the telecom company’s broader social impact agenda aimed at equipping Nigerians with practical, income-generating skills.
