The Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has detained Rafiu Rahaman, 29, at the state Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Yaba, for masterminding his own kidnap.

The suspect had allegedly connived with one of his friends, Usman Sheidu, to perfect the criminal act.

It was learnt that the suspect, after faking his kidnap, travelled to Lugbe in Abuja where he made a video of himself in captivity.

The police said the suspect later uploaded the video, which was sent to his co-worker in Lagos.

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, who confirmed the arrest, said his accomplice, Usman Sheidu, 32, demanded N5 million as ransom for his release.

Hundeyin said the suspect and his cohort who eventually got N150,000 after extensive negotiation has equally been arrested.

Hundeyin said the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Abiodun Alabi, while commending the detectives for a job well done, reassured Lagosians that perpetrators of crimes will not go undetected and unpunished.
