Lawmaker evacuates 10-year refuse from Anambra dump

Traders at Nkwo Oraifite market in Ekwusigo Local Government Area of Anambra State, have heaved a sigh of relief following the evacuation of a refuse dump at the market  that had not been evacuated for years. The eevacuation was sponsored by the lawmaker representing the constituency in the state House of Assembly,  Onyebuchi Augustine Ofor.

The odour from the 10-year-old refuse dump site in the area, Daily Trust gathered, had been a source of worry to both the traders and customers in the market, as it constituted environmental pollution to them.

Speaking to journalists in the area, the lawmaker said the decision to carry out the exercise was informed by his resolve to redeem his constituents from the health implications occasioned with such refuse dumps which could result to an epidemic.

“The situation became worrisome as sanitary conditions in the area continued to deteriorate such that traders at the market were left with no option than to contend with the excruciating smell from the heap of refuse,” he added.

Ofor who revealed that the dumpsite would be converted to a motor park, said he was deeply rooted in the grassroots which he has leveraged on to be conversant with the needs of his people.
