The Bauchi State House of Assembly has directed its Committee on Public Service to investigate and report back to the House, the circumstances surrounding the non-payment of salaries of 41,000 civil servants in the state.

Speaker of the House Abubakar Y Suleiman, spoke during the plenary shortly after Bala Abdu Rishi brought the issue under matters of urgent public importance where he lamented how about 41,000 civil servants in the state were not paid their October salary.

Abdu Rishi told the House that the situation is worrisome because the unpaid civil servants are in difficult condition and urged the House to mandate the state government to pay the civil servants their salaries and conduct the verification thereafter.

Corroborating with Rishi, the Member representing (Katagun Constituency) Mukhtar Suleiman, said in Zaki Local Government many civil servants were not paid their salaries and life has become unbearable, thus the House should set up a committee to investigate the matter.

On his part, Bakoji Aliyu Bobbo (Chiroma Constituency) clarified that the government is not conducting verification of civil servants, but authentication of workforce of Bauchi State as the payroll is rising without new employments.

But Gazali Abubakar (Ganjuwa East Constituency) said since the state government has included the chairman, House Committee on Public Service in the committee for authenticating the state workforce, he should report back to the House on the matter.

The speaker noted that the House has resolved that chairman of the House Committee on Public Service should report back on the circumstances of the non-payment of salaries to 41,000 civil servants in the state and the activities of the committee set up by the state government to investigate the matter.
