A Nasarawa State-based lawyer, Barrister Isah Hassan Nalaraba, has filed a suit against Justice Abdullahi Shams Shama of the state high court, Doma, for alleged infringement of his fundamental human rights.
He filed the suit before a Federal High Court in Lafia last week against the judge and the Nasarawa State Police Command over the confiscation of his two handsets and unlawful detention in police custody during a court sitting.
At the hearing, Nalaraba’s counsel, Abubakar Dogara Esq, informed the court about efforts to serve the processes, which the judge’s counsel, Yahaya Dangana Esq, confirmed.
According to Dogara, his client, Nalaraba, on February 5, 2025, arrived to conduct his court business when Justice Shama allegedly ordered for detention and confiscation of his two phones after misunderstanding him on recording the proceedings of court.

His words, “There was a kind of arrest even from the bar as a lawyer he was fully robed, so apart from the arrest he was taken to Doma police division where he slept there on account that he must surrender his two phones.”
The case has been adjourned until April 29 for hearing.
