A human right lawyer, Mr. Kanmi Ajibola has appealed to Osun state governor, Mr Rauf Aregbesola to halt further action on his plan to retrench about 648 staff of Ladoke Akintola Teaching Hospital, Osogbo.

Ajibola who addressed a press conference in Osogbo, capital of Osun State said despite the fact that Osun state government has been served with court processes on the matter; there are indication that the state government has completed the plans to sack the affected workers.

He advised Governor Aregbesola to prevail on the governing board of the hospital to discontinue the retrenchment process to allow the matter pending before court to run its full course.

According to him, “Four years ago, the management of the teaching hospital advertised vacancies in the hospital and employed those they considered qualified among the applicants."

Insisting now that these staffers that were recruited after fulfilling all laid down conditions will be laid off is unacceptable. That is why I take it upon myself to stand up for these people.

But despite duly serving Osun state government and all its relevantgencies, I have been informed that the process of sacking the workers is still on and that is against Rule of Law," Ajibola said.

He further averred that the audit committee set up by state government to verify all staffers of the hospital affirmed that retrospective approval was given for the employment of the affected staff.

According to him, "Since that has been confirmed, no other excuse can be given as to why the workers should be weeded out.  Approval was given for their appointments and due process was followed. We appeal to Governor Aregbesola to immediately stop the process of sacking the staff, at least to allow the case before the court run full course”.
