The Nigerian Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers (NIESV) Thursday held associates induction ceremony in Abuja where 342 members were inducted into the hall of associates.
 Estate surveyors and valuers are managers of  the land and immovable resources.
Addressing the inductees, President of NIESV Olorugun James Omeru lamented that lawyers and married women who have no jobs have invaded the surveyors and valuers’ territory because of the manpower gap in the profession.
“The gap gives room to quacks to operate,” Omeru stated adding that NIESV has increased the number of inductees to cover the gap.
“We increase the number every year because we want to close the space occupied by lawyers and housewives,” he said.
He advised the new associates: “As we induct you today, find space to practice. As we give you the certificate today, attach yourself to a firm and practice. In the absence of a firm, put yourselves together to practice.”
He harped on the need for the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) to include valuers in asset declaration exercise, lamenting that the clamour for valuers involvement has been on for 10 years.
According to him, NIESV has dragged CCB to court seeking interpretation of the law so as to make it mandatory that declared assets are backed with valuation certificate.
He told the gathering that failure to use valuation certificate is responsible for politicians’ false and anticipatory declaration of assets which has taken some of them to court.
Induction Speaker Emeka Eleh who is the 20th president of NIESV advised the inductees to practice according to laid down rules and secure the confidence of their clients. Highpoint was presentation of commemorative plaques and certificates to the new associates.
