In a show of solidarity, lawyers in Imo State yesterday took to the streets over the killing of a senior magistrate, Remmy Ogu.

Ogu was until his death the chief magistrate of Uburu magistrates’ court in Oru West Local Government Area.

Addressing a press conference in Owerri before embarking on a protest march in the metropolis, the lawyers asked the Inspector General of Police, Idris Ibrahim, to arrest the killers of Ogu.

The chairman of the Orlu branch of the Nigeria Bar Association, Chuzzy  Attama, said that the courts in the state lacked adequate security.

He said that the killing of the magistrate was a ploy to intimidate and shut the judiciary in the state.

Attama said: “We demand that the police and other relevant security agencies carry out a thorough investigation into the murder, and unmask the killers and bring them to justice.”
