The Lower Benue River Basin Development Authority (LBRBDA) and Amisec Industrial Company Limited have officially signed a landmark Public–Private Partnership (PPP) to establish AgroCity Doma, a ₦5 billion Phase One investment that will transform the Doma Dam Irrigation Area in Nasarawa State into a modern, climate-smart agro-industrial zone focused on organic sesame production, processing, and export.
Under the partnership, LBRBDA provides 1,000 hectares of irrigable land and access to irrigation water from the Doma Dam, while Amisec Industrial Company Ltd leads the investment, infrastructure development, cultivation, and management of the project. AgroCity Doma will serve as a flagship model for sustainable land utilization under Nigeria’s River Basin framework, driving value addition and rural industrialization.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, the Managing Director of LBRBDA, Engr Tersee Ninga, stated: “This partnership demonstrates the Federal Government’s commitment to productive use of our irrigation assets, taking the cue from Mr presidents Renewed Hope agenda. AgroCity Doma reflects how strategic PPPs can expand food production, create jobs, and boost agro-industrial growth.”
Abdulmuttalib Mohammad, Chief Executive Officer of Amisec Industrial Company Ltd, reaffirmed the company’s sustainable vision: “Amisec is investing ₦5 billion in Phase One of AgroCity Doma. Our goal is to build a fully integrated organic sesame value chain that delivers traceable, export-grade products, while also delivering socio economic value to host communities and the region. With the global organic sesame market exceeding USD4 billion and expanding rapidly, Nigeria is well positioned to become a leading supplier.”
AgroCity Doma will cover 1,000 hectares, featuring a mechanized nucleus farm, solar-powered irrigation systems, a 10 MT/hour sesame processing plant, agroforestry buffers, amenities and a structured outgrower programme engaging over 1000 local farmers. The project’s annual revenue potential is projected at up to $7 million (≈ ₦10.8 billion) from organic sesame seed sales, supporting more than 500 direct and 2,000 indirect jobs.
The project’s Hybrid Implementation Plan enables farming activities to begin during the upcoming rainy season while infrastructure and processing facilities develop concurrently. Construction and first-cycle planting are set to commence in -2026, with full processing and export operations expected by Q1 2027.
