 LCC had evolved a ‘Safety First and Beautification Project,’ which it has completed and handed over to the school management.

The project, involved a facelift for the school’s premises as well as provide its pupils and teachers with basic infrastructure, involving the construction of a car park with walkways and road safety signs, the installation of goal posts with nets and planting of grass on a football pitch, landscaping and beautification of the school’s premises, the provision of a water supply facility and the donation of a power generator. Maintenance work on the initiative will be sustained by LCC over the next two months, after which the responsibility will be transferred to the school’s management.

The project is aimed at ensuring that adequate road safety standards are in place for the pupils as well as provide for them an environment that is conducive for both work and play.

The Executive Chairman of Eti-Osa Local Government, Prince Olanrewaju Elegushi, commended the initiative, describing it as being in line with the modernisation earmarked by the local government council for public schools in Eti-Osa.

“We thank the management and staff of LCC for this gesture. We appreciate it very much and we look forward to having more of its kind in the future,” he said.

Prince Elegushi emphasized the importance to ensure that a proper maintenance culture is imbibed by the beneficiaries of the initiative. This, he said, will facilitate the sustainability of the project.

Also speaking at the event, the headmaster of the school, Mr Adebola Onanuga, thanked LCC for the new look given to the school and for bringing smiles to the faces of its teachers and pupils. “We are indeed very happy about this development. On behalf of the pupils and teachers of Ikota Primary School, I say a very big thank you to LCC. We assure you of our commitment to make the initiative a sustainable one,” he said.

Mr Charles Imevbore, Head of Corporate Affairs and Communications, LCC, reiterated the company’s interest and commitment to ensure that appropriate measures are taken to ensure the safety of children in the area. “The Ikota Primary School Safety First and Beautification Project is the pilot in a series of community development initiatives of this kind to be implemented by LCC. We will definitely identify other areas of partnership with the Eti-Osa local government towards the sustained development of its communities,” he said.
